Faith in action.
“But just as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us – see that you also excel in this grace of giving.”
- 2 Corinthians 8:7
Welcome to Californian Lutheran Homes and Community Services (CLH), an independent, not-for-profit social ministry organization. Our Lutheran roots go back to 1947, and our mission is to put faith into action by providing a wide array of services to people in need.
And while what we do is certainly important, it’s how we’re able to accomplish it that really inspires. Thanks to people like you, donating your time and financial resources through the vehicle of our Foundation, we’re able to expand our support to the following programs.
CLH sponsors affordable housing to low-income families with children, people with developmental disabilities, people who are mobility impaired, hearing impaired, deaf or with chronic mental illness through our work with CARING Housing Ministries.
CLH Center for Spirituality and Aging
Through the CLH Center for Spirituality, we’re able to bring to the world an understanding of aging as a spiritual journey, whole-person wellness, and the power of the mind-body-spirit connection to heal and transform lives.
Our auxiliary provides opportunities for our constituents to experience the rewards of making a difference by volunteering to run a resident store, plan events, comfort residents in our care centers, or take their time and talents into the greater community beyond.
And for the residents of our foundation-sponsored retirement communities like Walnut Village in Anaheim and Carlsbad By The Sea in Carlsbad, our Foundation is able to make possible life-enhancing benefits and services.
Like assisting those retirement community residents undergoing financial hardship so they can continue to enjoy the security and comfort of their home. Or helping employees with scholarships so they can complete their education and realize their dreams.
Or encouraging the creation and sharing of art to strengthen community through Front Porch Gallery, or helping to research and develop solutions to meet older adults’ needs through the Front Porch Center for Innovation and Wellbeing.
You can make a difference to an entire community by helping to finance an affordable housing project, the renovation of a chapel, remodeling of a dining room, funding of chaplain services or purchasing of a bus, piano or exercise equipment at a retirement community. Or you can touch the life of a single individual, like Betsy.
“As of now, I have ‘new ears’ to hear with! Thanks to a grant from CLH Foundation, I will hopefully be able to join in a conversation without first asking, ‘What did you say?’ My heartfelt thank you for the assistance that made this possible.”
With a variety of social ministries, we’re sure we can assist you in matching your dreams for philanthropy, whether it’s leaving a lasting legacy in the community in which you live, or being a true hero to someone disenfranchised or disabled who might need a home.
Your faith in action, whether directed at a specific program or just towards the area of greatest need, has the power to comfort and make a real difference in someone’s life. We are grateful for your gift of time, talent and treasure however you may choose to give.
